Episode Recap: Beauty and the Geek - Season 3, Episode 5

Episode 5
Original Air Date: January 31, 2007

A review of the stats for TVChicken.com has revealed that atleast one person found this site by typing "Nate and Jennylee" into a search engine. Well, for those of you who are eager to see some hot geek lovin', the embers start to light up in this episode. Nate tells us that watching Jennylee almost get eliminated last episode made him realize how sad he would be if she were gone.

The pair find an opportunity for some alone time late this night and talk about her feelings for her. Nate tells Jennylee that it's unbelievable that a girl like her would have a crush on him. Jennylee tells him that's silly because he's such a great guy. Much sugary sweetness ensues. At the end of the evening they give each other a long, soulful hug goodnight before retiring to their seperate bedrooms. Everybody now - awwww

Host Mike Richards gathers everyone downstairs the next morning to tell them about their next challenges. Each team will be getting a new team member. Panic sets in. Cecille starts to worry. Are the new team members going to be people who have been eliminated? What if it's someone who hates her, which is pretty much everybody?

Instead, four dogs are brought in and Mike says that each team must choose one. There's a hyper golden retriever, two little dogs that look more like rats, and a lazy old bull dog named Winston who apparently stinks. Mario and Nadia get stuck with stinky Winston. Later, the geeks will take their dogs to a dog park in an effort to attract women. The geek who gets the most phone numbers will win.

Mike hoists a large tool box on top of the table in front of him. This is probably the closest he will ever get to handling tools or doing anything remotely rugged. He tells the beauties, "This is a tool chest. It contains... shocker... tools."

"What are tools?" Nadia asks.

Not to be outdone in the let's-pretend-I'm-even-dumber-than-I-really-am-so-it-looks-good-on-TV dept, Cecille asks, "What's 'shocker'?"

A 'shocker' would be if Cecille actually did or said something that would not make everyone hate her guts.

Mike ignores the brain dead questions and tells the girls that their next challenge will be to build a "doggy domicile". Predictably, Scooter has to explain to Megan that a "domicile" is a house. I wonder if these girls ever read anything that is not on the back of a cereal box.

Once upstairs, Nate and Cecille's chihuahua starts dropping his doggy squeazins in the middle of their bedroom. (I have grown somewhat numb to this kind of sight. As I write this, my dog is doing obscene things to himself in the middle of my living room in front of the TV.) Satan, I mean Cecille, decides she would like to play dress up with her new doll and proceeds to torture the poor animal first by putting a "cape" on him, then stringing a bunch of bracelets around his neck. Nate, who has stood by while Cecille mistreated nearly every other human in the mansion, decides now would be a good time for him to say something. He takes it upon himself to take the bracelets off, eventually having to actually cut the braceletes off with wire cutters.

Niels and Jennylee discuss the best lines to pick up girls. Jennylee tells him he should compliment the women he meets in the park on their shoes or clothes to break the ice. But Don Juan Niels says he has a better line, "Do you know if there's a Starbucks around here? Great! You're my new tour guide!"

Jennylee tells him how lame that line is, but Niels doesn't need her advice. He's probably spoken to literally half a dozen girls. Besides, Jennylee is just a woman, what would she know about picking up girls?

It's time for the geeks' challenge and the dog park starts to look like a scene from Night of the Living Dead as the guys wander around with vacant looks on their faces after terrified women who try to run away. The only difference this time is that the zombies have dogs.

Scooter targets elderly women and strikes out with each one. Niels winds up paying more attention to Winston then he does to the women in the park, and for some odd reason, the few women he does approach don't seem to respond to his amazing Starbucks line. Mario, to his credit, is the most fearless. He approaches every young woman he sees, even trying to chase down joggers. He tells them he's trying to work on his "self-esteem" and "social skills" and it would really help if they would give him their numbers. It works on a group of three women. Nate developes a different strategy. He decides to follow Mario around and ask the same women he asks. Soon, the two are approaching the same women at the same time, openly competing for their numbers. They are tied at five numbers each when Mike calls out that they have only five minutes left. In the end, Nate wins with seven numbers.

Back at the mansion, Jennylee once again tells Niels how disappointed she is in him. He's getting sick of her constant criticizing. Just because he spent more time petting Winston than actually talking to any women, and just because he didn't listen to any of Jennylee's advice, doesn't mean he wasn't trying his hardest! He used his Starbucks line and everything! Besides, asking for women's numbers made him "feel dirty", so Jennylee just needs to back off.

Later the girls are brought to a workshop where they are provided with the disassembled pieces of their prefabricated dog houses. Their job is to nail those pieces together and "design" the house (which means paint it so it looks pretty). They are given just one hour. Cecille skips the hammer and nails and decides to tape her dog house together. She doesn't bother putting a roof on it, but lays a big piece of cloth over the top, saying she is giving her dog a "roof option". Nadia nails her roof on to the house before putting the front wall on it. It's between Megan and Jennylee who actually get to the point of spray painting their houses, and even put their dog's names on the domiciles.

The dog houses are brought back to the mansion for judging by design professional Doug Jeffries. Upon seeing Cecille's dog house, which was spray-painted pink and was decorated with pink feathers and a leopard-skin printed cloth hanging over the top, Nate says it looks more like a "doggy bordello" than an actual dog house. Doug questions Cecille on her use of double-stick tape as opposed to nails. She explains that she's "allergic to metal". Doug chooses Megan's dog house as the winner, as she was the only one to get started on shingling her roof before the time was up.

Megan eloquently explains her victory to us, "There was no talking involved, so it was easier for me because I can think smart without talking more better than I can talk smart without thinking."

Um, yeah.

That night Nate and Jennylee get some more time to be alone. Nate musters up the courage to kiss her. Jennylee asks him if he'll come visit her. He says with "all the movie star guys" wanting to go out with her, she'll forget about him. She says she always fantasize about Nate. Awww.

The next morning Jennylee is worried about going up against Nadia, who seems to have really good retention skills for what she reads. Niels is worried about going up against Mario. Some of the questions might have to do with "chick flicks" and wine. Mario knows a lot about both.

Niels and Jennylee and Mario and Nadia make their way into the Elimination Room. Each of the girls answer both of their questions correctly. It's up to the guys.

Mike asks Niels which question he wants, to which Niels responds, "Mike, if number 1 were a booger, I'd pick it first."

Niels answers his first question correctly. Mario answers his first question correctly. Niels gets his second question right. Mario must correctly answer his second question to stay in the game.

Mike asks what is it called when one person on a date adopts the same gestures and body language of the other person.

Mario answers, "Mimicking."

The correct answer is "mirroring". Mario and Nadia are eliminated. During the exit interview, it's nothing but love between Mario and Nadia. She says Mario is a great guy with a great sense of humor and anyone who doesn't see that is blind.

Next week - The teams get to milk cows.
